What led you to choose your program or major?
I decided I wanted to major in International Business so I can make a difference. My major will allow me to work in government organizations and being able to use that and create much needed change in the world today would be amazing.
Why did you decide to become a University of Wisconsin student at UW-Fond du Lac?
At first I thought I needed to go to a four-year institution; that it was the experience that made up for the cost. Fortunately, I was indecisive on what my major should be at the time so I told myself to go to UW-Fond du Lac to figure it all out. Both of my parents went there and I heard many praises of the professors. I believe I chose correctly; this institution gave me opportunities I wouldn’t have had starting as a freshman at a four-year school all while not having to spend an enormous amount of money.
Is there someone at UW-Fond du Lac who made a difference in your life or inspired you?
I have a few people in mind when given this question; the professors that cared about the environment of their classrooms which have taught me so much in a short amount of time and the advisors who will listen and work with you and are always understanding. Most of all, the unexpected friends I met along the way; teaching each other, learning from mistakes we’ve made, and building each other up and knowing we cannot understand their story but accepting them always.
What is one piece of advice you would give to an incoming UW-Fond du Lac student?
Don’t be afraid to get involved to find something you have the slightest interest in and jump right in. This is the time to try your best, fail, and learn from your mistakes. There are so many resources given if you only ask. And never be afraid to speak up if there is an issue. This environment should be a place of learning and friendship, not one in which you don’t feel safe.
When not in class or studying, what keeps you busy?
I keep pretty occupied with my part time jobs and SGA (at two campuses). However, with the free time I do have, I like to relax with friends, find new experiences in town, and read.
What are your plans after UW-Fond du Lac?
I plan to transfer to a four-year institution to earn a bachelor’s degree in my major and hopefully earn a minor in German while being present in university affairs and improving the environment of my fellow students.
