Tools/Parts/History examines history and material culture

textile artUW-Fond du Lac is hosting an exhibit of textile art by Alison Gates through Nov. 2 in the Visual Arts Gallery. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Art Building, 400 University Dr.

The public is invited to meet Gates during a closing reception at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28.

The exhibit “Tools/Parts/History” examines how material culture informs our understanding of the world. Gates is an associate professor and chair of the art department at UW-Green Bay. Featured are a series of woven blankets and examples of knitting styles from five places in the world where knitting plays a role in the economy by providing a source of income.
