The University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley, a campus of UW Oshkosh, will host the 28th annual Wisconsin Space Conference Friday, Aug. 10. This year’s conference is titled “Uncharted Lands: Geology and Space” and will highlight how an understanding of geology aids in the exploration of space.

Conference attendees will have the opportunity to hear two speakers, including Menasha native Jennifer L. B. Anderson, Ph.D., of Winona State University and Chris Henry of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in Oshkosh. Advance registration for the conference is needed. The morning presentation by Anderson will focus on her meteorite impact studies with NASA and their implications for planetary geology in a talk titled “Going Ballistic! Making Impact Craters in the Laboratory.”

Henry will present “Apollo: For All Mankind” during the evening session. He will highlight key moments in the Apollo missions with observations, thoughts and reactions from the astronauts and crew who participated in the missions. 

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about NASA partnerships, internships and scholarships; industry partners; careers in the space and aerospace fields; academic research; and team projects undertaken by student research teams from across the state. The conference will be held at the UW-Fox Valley Communication Arts Center, 1478 Midway Road, Menasha.

The conference is organized by the Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium (WSGC). The mission of NASA’s Space Grant Program is to contribute to the nation’s science enterprise by funding education, research and informal education projects through a national network of university-based Space Grant consortia. The Wisconsin Space Conference is held by the WSGC every August and features presentations describing the research, outreach and teaching innovations funded by the Consortium. UW-Fox Valley is a member of WSGC.
