An estimated 700 business executives, community leaders and elected officials from throughout northeastern Wisconsin will gather at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh on Dec. 3 for the seventh annual New North Summit.

UPDATE: Discounted registration is now being offered to UW Oshkosh students interested in attending the summit. The $15 admission price is for UWO students exclusively; general registration is $65. The Chancellor’s Office will fund complimentary registrations for the first 100 UW Oshkosh students who wish to attend. To take advantage of this offer, students should present their Titan ID cards at the registration table at the summit.

Governor-elect Scott Walker will be a featured speaker, providing some insight into his economic plans for the future of the state.

New North Inc., a regional collaboration effort focused on promoting regional cooperation and economic development in an 18-county region in northeastern Wisconsin, formed in late 2005. UW Oshkosh is one of the founding members.

“New North Inc. is widely recognized as the state’s premier regional economic development organization,” said Chancellor Richard H. Wells. “By hosting this event, UW Oshkosh will give these key individuals and leaders from the region the opportunity to see our campus and the efforts we are making to meet the New North’s needs by offering academic programs and facilities improvements to meet increasing demands.”

The New North Summit, “Competing to Win,” will begin with registration at 7 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at Kolf Sports Center, 785 High Ave. Featuring networking opportunities, breakout sessions and an afternoon panel on entrepreneurship, the summit will provide a forum for collaboration and education. The event also will feature a “Taste of Entrepreneurship” lunch, with culinary creations from across the region.

“We are thrilled to hold this year’s summit at UW Oshkosh,” said Jerry Murphy, executive director of New North Inc. “Bringing these academic leaders together with community leaders and local entrepreneurs will help inspire and motivate economic development in the New North.”

At 11 a.m., keynote speaker Mark Murphy, CEO of the Green Bay Packers, will share his experiences from a uniquely blended career perspective that includes his time as both an NFL player and leader of an NFL franchise.

UW Oshkosh students can register for the summit at the discounted rate of $15.
