Success for Scholarships

An evening of glitz and glamour it was—the inaugural An Evening of Black and Gold, a new fundraising event created to raise money for University of Wisconsin Oshkosh scholarships.

Held on March 30 at the Culver Family Welcome Center on the Oshkosh campus, the evening brought about 200 people to campus to raise more than $50,000 that will go directly toward supporting scholarships for students.

“An Evening of Black and Gold represented a true moment of celebration for the University,” UW Oshkosh Chancellor Andrew Leavitt said. “Together, fundraising partners and supporters took a tremendous step forward in our shared efforts to strengthen donations for student scholarships. I look forward to continue working with all of our partners and friends to help transform the lives of UW Oshkosh students.”

Oshkosh Corporation served as this year’s presenting sponsor; Werner Electric Supply, Associated Bank, SECURA Insurance and McCarty Law also helped make the event possible through sponsorship support.

Jeff Potts ’07 and ’16 MBA, and Brooke (Buntrock) Tabbert ’04, both UW Oshkosh Alumni Association board members, led attendees through the fundraising portion of the evening by encouraging guests to raise their paddles to give money to support UW Oshkosh students through scholarships.

UW Oshkosh senior Luiz Spim, who is majoring in finance and business management, shared his story from the podium with An Evening of Black and Gold guests. Spim, of Brazil, has been the recipient of seven UW Oshkosh scholarships making an education in the United States possible.

Kerry Rocole ’85, vice president of human resources at Oshkosh Corporation, addressed the audience on behalf of the company. Oshkosh Corporation was the presenting sponsor.
