New year, new look, new energy.

With a fresh brand, our academic year launches and we look to UWO’s 150th anniversary.

I’ve been looking ahead to the next couple of years at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and one thought keeps crossing my mind: “Get ready: There’s going to be a lot to celebrate.”

Not that there isn’t already much to applaud.

First, let’s talk about the University’s new “look.” In July, the UW System Board of Regents approved new lettermarks that modernize our branding and extend black and gold to the UWO Fox Cities and Fond du Lac campuses.

As you can see, it’s a fresh design. As we explained after Regents approval, the overlap of the “U, W and O” provides a strong visual nod to our future as three campuses of one university.

The lettermark also echoes typeface used in the UW System logo, and for good reason. “UW” is not just an abbreviation; it’s an emblem and brand for a strong system of universities. It makes me proud to consider the ways our new look helps better connect and represent the tens of thousands of students, alumni and other stakeholders who count on us to help transform lives in this region and beyond.

This fall I also am thrilled to join you in cheering on what I consider a Golden Age of Titan athletics. It is remarkable how many success stories UWO athletics boasts right now. I could rattle off a list of athletes and teams earning national honors, but let me just point you to uwoshkoshtitans.com and invite you to take your pick! I hope you will make it a point to join us in the stands in the fall, winter and spring seasons ahead as we support our student-athletes and coaches in a spectrum of winning programs.

Meanwhile, planning for UWO’s 2021 sesquicentennial is well underway. Expect an incredible year of commemorations and celebrations to mark the institution’s 1871 origin and 150 years of tradition, growth and change. That year, we’ll up the ante for our annual Evening of Black and Gold Scholarship dinner event, transforming it into a black-tie Black and Gold Scholarship Ball.

Additionally, we’ll be inviting our entire Titan community—nearly 100,000 alumni strong—to sesquicentennial-energized events throughout 2021. The theme and spirit will tie together academics, music, theatre, visual arts and a supercharged Homecoming program. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

You can expect an update from me about what’s ahead in the spring issue of this magazine. Until then, I look forward to our paths crossing on the campuses or in our communities. I’m always happy to treat a Titan to a cup of coffee.
