The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh hosts Homecoming 2019, Oct. 18-19, with student-specific events beginning Oct. 13. The special weekend for alumni and students now also includes Family Day, an opportunity for students and their families to reconnect and explore campus.

Nearly 450 families are scheduled to attend Family Day. The second annual event is set for Saturday, Oct. 19 and begins with a continental breakfast in the Lower Marketplace of Reeve Memorial Union.

“We tend to have a higher number of new student families who choose to participate in the activities,” explained Jennie Hartzheim, coordinator of New Student and Family Programs. “It is always exciting to see students who just a few weeks ago were brand new to campus become the “expert”— excited to show their family around their new home and share a little bit of their life as a UWO student.”

Families in attendance also will  have the opportunity to mingle with alumni, something that Christine Gantner, director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving, is excited about.

“Having the opportunity for alumni to mingle and talk with families at Family Day is special,” Gantner said. “It will likely bring back memories and they can share stories and advice. Since our University is nearly 150 years old, we have a rich history of legacy alumni families so it will be neat to see generations of Titans interacting with one another and sharing their Titan pride.”

Families and their students, along with alumni and community members, are then welcome to attend a historic non-walking tour of campus, led by UWO archivist Joshua Ranger, followed by the ever-popular and family-friendly Titan Tailgate Celebration. The tailgate is located on the second floor of Reeve Union, includes lots of free food and games and begins at 11 a.m.

The Homecoming and Family Day festivities continue with its annual Titan football game. This year UWO hosts UW-Eau Claire at 1:30 p.m. at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The royalty court will be announced on the field at halftime.

Other highlights of Homecoming week include a student talent show on Tuesday, Oct. 15, comedian Chris Distefano on Wednesday, Oct. 16 and the Alumni Awards Celebration on Friday, Oct. 18.
