The 38th-annual Black Maria Film Festival tour will return to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Fond du Lac campus at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 in the Prairie Theatre.

The Black Maria Film Festival tour features a selection of films from genres including narrative shorts, documentaries, animation and experimental films. The event is free and open to the general public.

The Fond du Lac campus has hosted this event for six consecutive years. This year it is the only venue in Wisconsin to be a part of the tour.

The festival showcases the work of independent filmmakers internationally. The 10 films to be screened at the Prairie Theater hail from Austria, Canada, South Korea and the United States.

The Black Maria Film Festival was founded in 1981 as a tribute to Thomas Edison’s development of the motion picture at his laboratory, dubbed the “Black Maria” film studio, the first in the world.

The festival is a project of the Thomas A. Edison Media Arts Consortium, an independent nonprofit organization, in partnership with the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University and the Hoboken Historical Museum.
