Andrew Haese was just 14 years old when he began his broadcasting career by operating his own online radio station from the bedroom of his childhood home in Jackson, Wisconsin. Now as a junior radio TV film major at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Haese juggles a full course load and two jobs while co-hosting the weekly entertainment radio show and podcast, Haze and Jasen.

Haese will moderate Pro Perspectives, an event to be held Friday, Oct. 18 as part of Homecoming 2019. The event takes place in the RTF Broadcast Studio of the Fredric March Theatre Building.

Pro Perspectives is a conversation with radio TV film alumni working in the industry. They will provide their perspectives on making the leap to the professional world and the current state of the industry. Alumni will also share advice on internships and job hunting.

Guest speakers for this years’ event are Alex Crowe ’15, program director at 98.7 WMDC Mayville The Great 98; Kimberly Krejcarek ‘10, creative services producer for WLUK-TV FOX 11 and Adam Steinbach ‘16, mobile unit broadcast engineer for NEP Group Inc.

Haze and Jasen

Haese’s award-winning and nationally trending podcast is broadcast live every Wednesday at 6 p.m. on his online radio station, A100 Radio. The segments are then uploaded in their entirety as a podcast on all major platforms on Thursdays.

“Basically, the show runs like a morning radio show by college students, for college students and young adults. You never know what to expect or what we’re going to talk about,” Haese explained.

Haze and Jasen began in summer 2018, right before he and his co-host Megan Jasen, a communications major at St. Norbert College in De Pere, went off to their respective colleges. Since its creation, the show has quickly gained traction and just this past month was voted “Best Entertainment” and “Podcast of the Year” at the first annual Wisconsin Podcast Festival in Milwaukee.

“I feel incredibly shocked that we have a trending podcast, especially at 19 years old. It’s oddly funny to think about people caring so much about what I have to say and coming back every week just to hear my voice,” Haese said. “Not many young adults have a place to share their opinions and passions, plus be respected universally for them. Megan and I are so grateful for the platform we have.”

When not in classes or working on the podcast, Haese works as the station manager for 90.3 WRST-FM Oshkosh and at the local Kwik Trip. Balancing his busy schedule has been a welcomed challenge.

“It’s extremely difficult managing everything as a college student. But I feel I’m a pretty hard-working individual, and I happen to somehow make time for it all,” Haese said. “I couldn’t tell you how I do it, because I’m not even sure sometimes, but whatever I’m doing…it’s working.”

For Haese, the best part about co-hosting the show is the ability to talk with his best friend every week and have fun producing the show for their fans in spite of going to different colleges.

“We do the show entirely remote and over the internet. Funny thing is, nobody would ever know that we weren’t in the same room doing the show together,” he said. “Having this show keeps our connection strong, and I’m forever grateful for it. Megan is one of the best people in my life, and I couldn’t ask for a better co-host.”
