University Dining and Sodexo made a joint donation to the Oshkosh Community Food Pantry through hosting Soup and Salad Day at Blackhawk Commons on Dec. 3, 2010.

The Soup and Salad Day event featured a toned-down menu that included soup, salad, cheese pizza, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and assorted beverages. The money saved per person by having this type of menu was calculated and donated to the Oshkosh Area Community Food Pantry.

There were 727 students that opted to eat lunch at Blackhawk Commons during Soup and Salad Day even though they knew there would be fewer options than usual. This shows how willing University of Wisconsin Oshkosh students are to help give back to their community.

This event, which has been held twice previously, raised $1,050 for the Oshkosh Area Community Food Pantry. Derek Komp, president of the UW Oshkosh Food Committee, stated, “University Dining and Sodexo are honored to be able to work with students to give back to the local community. We are looking forward to having another successful Soup and Salad Day during the spring semester.”

Kate Unger, Reeve Memorial Union, submitted this announcement. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to contribute calendar items, campus announcements and other good news to UW Oshkosh Today.
