As one of the nation’s leading nursing schools, alumni of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s College of Nursing are part of a growing network of more than 8,500 healthcare professionals.

Understanding the opportunity and benefit that connecting these professionals with their alma mater would have, alumna Paahoua Xiong ’15—with guidance from associate professor Bonnie Nickasch—developed the new College of Nursing (CON) Alumni Association Chapter this spring.

“UWO College of Nursing alumni serve as leaders in various communities and offer exceptional patient-centered healthcare,” Xiong said. “As advocates for excellence and innovation in the dynamic healthcare industry, we are encouraging graduates to remain connected with the Titan community.”

The CON alumni chapter focuses on connecting alumni and soon-to-be graduates, increasing alumni engagement at University events and promoting the colleges continuing advancements.

The official kickoff for the CON Alumni Association Chapter was to have taken place at the 2020 Spring Nightingale event, but was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Xiong and Nickasch will now host a College of Nursing Virtual Town Hall on Nov. 10 from noon-1 p.m.

“Ultimately, this alumni chapter will help members connect with each other and build strong relationships that share nursing and UWO at its core,” Nickasch said. “Members can share what their facility is practicing for safety and best practices during this pandemic. They can also provide emotional support during challenging times.”

Xiong couldn’t agree more.

“Given the current environment, this new chapter has been important in allowing CON alumni to support each other and discuss their experiences of working in healthcare during the pandemic.”
