The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is among the top schools in the nation for the next generation of web designers, according to College Magazine.

The top 10 national ranking comes thanks to the Interactive Web Management (IWM) program at UW Oshkosh, which involves students thinking well beyond the technology aspect of web design. UWO landed at No. 6 on the list, published earlier this month.

The IWM major is offered as a bachelor of business administration, a bachelor of science or a bachelor of arts degree and blends facets of marketing, information systems, journalism and computer science. With the three degree options, students have more flexibility in both the general education credits they choose and the courses they take to supplement the core courses of the major.

“IWM stands out for its focus on the blending of technology and content creation,” said IWM program director and journalism professor T.R. Gleason. “Students gain a foundational understanding in web design and social media, and there is room in the curriculum for students to specialize. Graduates are adaptable as employees because they can apply their business education, they excel at writing for online platforms and they can analyze data to understand how consumers use the web.”

College Magazine, an online publication put together by college students for college students, also connected with senior IWM major Mimi Tang, who had high praise for the program.

“All of the professors are there, they want to support you, and they do so many things in class like projects and social networking assignments that would help you in the long run to prepare to get a job,” she said.
