All of us looking back on 2020 know how COVID-19 changed the way we lived, worked and learned.
Indeed, a review of our UW Oshkosh Today statistics shows that many of our most-viewed stories for the year included those that detailed how the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh community of students, faculty, staff and alumni responded to or were affected by the worldwide pandemic:
- New COVID-19 surge testing center to open at UW Oshkosh welcome center with 15,378 pageviews
- CDC to evaluate UW Oshkosh’s robust COVID-19 antigen testing with 8,723 views
- Students will be back on UW Oshkosh campuses this fall with 2,691 views
- Students can now submit for Titans Rise Emergency Grant money with 2,411 views
Despite COVID-19’s enormous impact, there were other news and feature stories that captured our attention in 2020. The University community celebrated many successes…bright spots…during this unprecedented year.
UW Oshkosh Today posts naming UWO students on the Dean’s List and Honor Roll typically are the most popular of the year, and 2020 was no exception with such announcements for the fall 2019 semester and the spring 2020 semester garnering the most pageviews at 26,301 and 17,851, respectively.
Other top content for 2020 included:
- The recent report that UWO ranked one of top 100 public nursing schools in the nation shared good news from the Nursing Schools Almanac, which garnered 6,815 pageviews.
- In May, a feature about research published by Joseph Fredrickson of the Fox Cities campus, ‘Jurassic Park’ got it wrong: UWO research indicated raptors don’t hunt in packs, spread around the world with 4,986 views.
- December surprise: Until now, this midyear graduate didn’t tell his parents he was attending UW Oshkosh delivered a sweet holiday story to the campus community with 2,439 views.
- Two more features from the College of Nursing captured our attention: UWO junior juggles nursing studies and a full-time business with 2,072 views; and UWO student and ER nurse shares her experience, advice from the front lines with 1,577 views.
- Even though the event was cancelled just as COVID-19 began to take hold, Poised to burn its last load of coal, UW Oshkosh moves closer to renewable energy spread the news about this historic moment on campus with 1,576 views.
Finally, we have to mention a favorite of UWC staff from way back in February, ‘He’s a big snuggler’: Introducing Leo, the adorable new therapy dog at UW Oshkosh, with 1,298 views.
We’re all hoping Leo will be back in action on campus soon.
