Leaky roofs on two University of Wisconsin Oshkosh buildings are being addressed while mild winter weather sticks around the state.

Crews have been busy working at the Clow Social Science Center, replacing the lecture hall roofs as part of a project that included re-roofing the southern section of Halsey Science Center.

JoAnn Rife, executive director of facilities management at UW Oshkosh, said contractors were able to complete the majority of the work on the Halsey roof sooner than anticipated and the weather allowed them to begin work on the Clow building.

Quality Roofing of Marshfield is the contractor on the state project.

The Clow Social Science Center and Halsey Science Center are getting updates this winter.

The majority of the work currently is focused on the roofs over lecture halls L101 and L104, with a goal of having it wrapped up by the Feb. 1 start of the spring semester, according to Brian Schmidt, structural supervisor at UWO. Work would then shift to the roof over the classrooms that are adjacent to the lecture halls. Nearly all of the work is anticipated to be completed by the end of February. Lightening protection will be installed in early March and should take only a day to complete.

“It was the consensus at the outset of the roof replacement that work would be halted at some point due to weather and be completed in the spring,” Schmidt said. “At this point, the contractor is hopeful they will be completed on the timeline mentioned, thanks to the mild weather we’ve had.”
