The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh held its Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration and Celebration with an in-person and virtual format―the first time attendees could take in the celebration from afar.

James Fletcher, vice chancellor for finance and administration at UW Oshkosh, was keynote speaker for the Feb. 17 event at Reeve Memorial Union and Alphonso Simpson Jr., director of African American studies at UWO, provided vocal performances. To complete the night, several Oshkosh area students were awarded certificates as part of an MLK Jr. essay contest.

The UWO African American studies program and Sigma Upsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. were sponsors of the program.
