Two University of Wisconsin Oshkosh employees on the Fox Cities campus have been honored with 2020-21 White Awards.

Elizabeth Bloedow, an information specialist in Student Services; and Sarah Christensen, an international student coordinator, have earned the Larry White University Staff Award and the Marilee White Instructional Academic Staff Award, respectively.

The awards are named for former UW-Fox Valley employees Larry and Marilee White. The two honorees will receive a $500 cash award from the University of Wisconsin Fox Cities Foundation Inc.; the Community Foundation of the Fox Valley Region holds the investment that was generously provided by the Whites.

Bloedow’s nomination included: “Elizabeth has been an amazing stalwart for the operations of campus during all of this year, including during the COVID lockdown. She has been the central face of serving students who have come to campus and was the lone staff member in the solution center for a while. She’s worked to complete her graduate degree, learned her new job and done it all with a positive and cheery attitude.”

Christensen’s nomination included: “Sarah taught the Interdisciplinary Studies 101 (First Year Seminar for International Students) in fall 2020 for the UWO Fox Cities intake of Kings and non-Kings international students. Sarah moved her class completely online but she also had to account for a whole group of confused, sometimes stuck and worried students who were trying to navigate the pandemic in real-time and often in a language that is not their native tongue. Sarah had to pivot in her class on many occasions and find new ways to engage with students across many time zones. She accomplished this with reassurance for them, a high level of professional skill and her unique ability to offer the right advice.”
