The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s Public Relations Student Society of America chapter was honored by the national PRSSA at the 2007 awards banquet held recently in Philadelphia. The chapter received the first-place plaque for its Organ Donation Awareness Campaign from Rowan University.

PRSSA members Krista Knabenbauer, Amanda Kutil, Ashley Madaus, Alyssa Matelski, Anna Simeth and Vanessa Virbitsky accepted the award. All are journalism majors.

UW-Oshkosh’s “tell ’em” spring 2007 campaign targeted organ donors to make their donation wishes known to their loved ones. The campaign was a collaborative effort of the Oshkosh chapter and took months of planning and researching. The main event of the “tell ’em” campaign was a graffiti-themed dance open to all students in Reeve Memorial Union’s Titan Underground.

The UW-Oshkosh PRSSA chapter has placed in the Organ Donation Awareness Campaign in the past; however, this is the first time it received first-place honors.

More than 30 teams participated in this annual competition by Rowan. Second place went to Pennsylvania State University, and third place was awarded to the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
