“Civility” is the theme for three upcoming Tuesday Talks planned at UW-Fond du Lac beginning Nov. 15. The community is invited to attend these free lectures held 12:30-1:30 pm in Room UC-114 in the University Center on campus, 400 University Dr., Fond du Lac.

Lectures include:

Nov. 15 – “Civility and Incivility in Presidential Politics: A Historical Perspective” presented by Paisley Harris, UW-Fond du Lac history professor. She will discuss dramatic, amusing and significant examples of incivility and civility in Presidential politics throughout United States history; and share some comparisons and contrasts with this year’s election.

Nov. 29 – “Is Civil Discourse Possible?” presented by Kristi Wilkum, UW-Fond du Lac communications professor. Those attending will learn six tools for maintaining civil interactions during difficult conversations. Wilkum will discuss how the social fabric gets stronger when we can honor another person’s view without agreeing with them, when we can engage in respectful debate and when we learn from people who passionately believe in an opposing viewpoint.

Dec. 6 – “The Sacred Thread Through All Religions: Our Way to Religious Civility” with Michael Ketterhagen, theology professor at Marian University. He will introduce the common thread that links all religious traditions and discuss how the science and philosophy of yoga and the Vedic tradition provide a basis for unity of all religious traditions and practices and can foster a true civility and respect towards each religious tradition.
