A week of activities and discussions that focus on a just, sustainable and peaceful global society are the basis of Earth Charter Summit Week at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
Earth Charter is an international declaration that seeks to inspire in all people a sense of global interdependence and common responsibility for the well-being of humanity, the greater community of life and future generations.
Earth Charter was launched in 2000 and has been endorsed by more than 6,000 organizations worldwide, including many governments and international organizations.
Each year, UW Oshkosh celebrates its commitment to the Earth Charter.
This year’s keynote speaker, Marcia Bjornerud, a Lawrence University geology professor, is author of Timefulness: How Thinking Like a Geologist Can Help Save the World. Her talk is free and open to the public. It takes place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Culver Family Welcome Center. (Doors open at 5 p.m.)
