Civil Rights Movement in the American South: Info Session

October 18, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Are you interested in taking part in a cool travel course during spring interim? Consider taking The Civil Rights Movement in the American South 1955-1965, which runs May 30- June 6, 2019 and will be co-led by Stephen Kercher and Tony Laing.

The course will focus on the history of the civil rights movement in the South. In addition to having students explore readings and documentaries on this subject, we will have them engage archival documents from the 1964 Freedom Summer—held in Madison and made available in Polk Library. We will then travel with students to Atlanta and then make our way through Birmingham, Montgomery, Selma, Jackson, Oxford and other places in between before ending up in Memphis. Students will receive three (3) credits for this course.

If you are interested in this travel course, please attend our information session on Oct. 18, 3-4 pm at the Campus Center for Equity and Diversity (717 West Irving Avenue) in Room 006 (lower level).
