Erin DeMuynck will present on her work with Mujeres Emprendedoras, which translates to women entrepreneurs. It is also the name of a business development program run by a small NGO working to empower women in a rapidly urbanizing community on the outskirts of Lima. This presentation will explore multiple ways of conceptualizing empowerment and consider what the expectations and perspectives of women who have participated in the Mujeres Emprendedoras program can tell us about these meanings and critiques. DeMuynck will also discuss the goals and ethical implications of intercultural research.
