Mattie Harper

Dr. Mattie Harper (Bois Forte Band of Ojibwe) is a historian of the Great Lakes region of North America, U.S. settler colonialism, and Native American women and gender. Her work raises questions about the construction of race and gender, Native American identity formation, and cross-cultural encounters in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Prior to coming to San Diego, she was a University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Santa Cruz and was also the Charles Eastman Fellow of Native American Studies at Dartmouth College.
