Over the next five years, there are more than 30 new superhero movies scheduled to hit theaters. Only two of those movies will feature a female lead. While there are some positive trends, such as the new Ms. Marvel being a Muslim-American woman or Wonder Woman’s origin story reboot to include a female lover, more diverse conceptualizations of superheroes are still needed.
