UW Oshkosh Jazz Lab Band, directed by Marc Sackman
On Friday, May 5 at 7:30 pm in the Arts and Communication Music Hall, the UWO Jazz Lab Band under the direction of Dr. Marc Sackman will present its end of the year concert. The band will play a wide array of music, from Duke Ellington’s “Concerto to Cootie”, featuring graduating senior Joe sandy on trumpet, Count Basie’s “L’il Darlin’” to “Hip-Hop Bop Stop” by Ellen Rowe. There will be Latin tunes– “Blue Bossa” and Alyssa Proell on vocals for “The Girl From Ipanema”. Funk will be represented with Herbie Hancock’s “Watermelon Man”, as will tunes from the Blue Note era with Sonny Rollin’s “Doxy” and Duke Jordan’s “Jordu”. Rounding out the concert will be another chart from the Basie book, Sammy Nestico’s arrangement of “Fly Me to the Moon”.
