Spouses & Dependants

Family matters.

UW Oshkosh and VRC understands the important role that family members play in the support and success of your veterans. VRC extends its services to those family members in order to assist them in reaching their academic goals.

Post 9/11 GI Bill®

Since the enactment of the Post 9/11 GI Bill, more and more veterans are taking advantage of the opportunity to “transfer” their educational benefits to one or more of their dependents. Information about transferring Post 9/11 Benefits can be found here.

The University does NOT evaluate your service record to determine your benefits eligibility; that is the role of the VA. However, if you have questions regarding education benefits please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Fry Scholarship

If your parent or spouse was an active-duty servicemember who died in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001, you may qualify for the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship (Fry Scholarship). Find out if you can get benefits through this scholarship here.

Chapter 35 Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program

Children and spouses of a veteran may be eligible for their own VA educational assistance in the form of a monthly stipend. For information on eligibility and benefit coverage can be found on the VA’s website.

WI GI Bill Tuition Remission

The Wisconsin GI Bill provides a full waiver (“remission”) of tuition and fees for eligible veterans and their dependents for up to 8 full-time semesters or 128 credits at any University of Wisconsin System (UWS) or Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) institution for continuing education, or for study at the undergraduate or graduate level.

Research the eligibility guidelines here.
