Our Staff

Timber Smith

Veterans Resource Coordinator

Timber is a graduate of UW Oshkosh with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a masters in educational leadership and policy. Prior to serving as the Veterans Resource Center coordinator, Timber was an admissions counselor at UWO, and he currently serves as co-staff advisor for the Student Veterans Association. Timber served in the army reserves as an optical lab tech until 1997.

Michelle Munns

Michelle is a 2011 graduate of UW Oshkosh with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Michelle’s military influences include a parent who is an Army veteran and a grandparent who is a Marine veteran. Michelle is also a co-staff advisor for the Student Veteran Association.

Renee Barthel

Renee is a Junior at UW Oshkosh pursuing a bachelor of science degree in psychology. She plans to continue her education at the graduate level to study counseling. Her military influence is her father, who served in the Coast Guard for 30 years.

Justine Freund

Justine is a freshman at UW Oshkosh, pursuing a degree in nursing. She is currently serving in the Army National Guard as a medic.

Stephanie Hartleben

Stephanie is a junior at UW Oshkosh. She is a 6th generation Army veteran. She served on active duty as a health care specialist. She is pursuing a degree in human services. She plans to work in Veterans Outreach upon graduation.

Travis Peterson

Travis is a VRC student worker at the Fond du Lac campus of UWO. Travis served with the Minnesota Army National Guard for six years, specializing in information technology. After working in IT for about five years, Travis felt that there was a more fulfilling field he wanted to pursue. He moved from Saint Paul, MN, to Fond du Lac, WI and enrolled at UWO to pursue a B.S. in psychology. Wanting to be more involved with the campus and the veteran community, he found the VRC to be the perfect fit in his new path forward.

Nick Sanfilippo

Nicholas is currently a freshman here at UW Oshkosh. He is pursuing nursing and plans to get his master’s. He is also looking at pursuing medical school. He served active duty in the Navy as a crash and salvage crewman and rescue swimmer.

Ave Somers

Ava is a junior, studying Secondary Education and Spanish. She is the daughter of a Marine veteran and currently serving in the Army Reserves as an ammunition specialist.

Isaac Dickenson

Isaac Dickenson is a sophomore attending the UW Oshkosh – Fond du lac campus who will be transitioning to the Oshkosh campus pursue a degree in nursing. Currently, he is serving in the army reserve as a horizontal construction engineer.
