Today, as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I hope we not only reflect on his life’s struggle and sacrifices for justice and equality but also his audacious futurism. Look back, but also look forward with intention.

Dr. King’s hope and imagination for a better future blazed through the suffocating haze of prejudice and racism in his time. He fearlessly looked forward and described an inclusive future in which all people, free of bigotry and hatred, would learn, grow and become all they wish to be. It was not a prediction, but, rather, a purpose—one embraced by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

I look forward to another year of living out that purpose alongside all of you. We continue to cultivate three UWO campus communities and a future where all feel safe, supported, happy, challenged to grow and able to flourish, just as Dr. King dared to dream.
