The purpose of Independent Study is to allow a student to explore in-depth topics of scholarly interest which are not attainable through the university coursework. In Department of Engineering and Engineering Technology, a student who wishes to complete an Independent Study should prepare a syllabus (in collaboration with the instructor) for approval by the department.

Independent Study offerings are not to be used as a substitution for General Education requirements. Before registering for an IS course, students must obtain the proper contract form from the department office, complete it and secure all necessary signatures.
