Welcome back; COVID-19 campus updates
UW Oshkosh Police Chief Kurt Leibold | Sept. 9, 2021
In today’s communication you will find:
- Vaccination updates
- Scholarship, vaccine incentives
- Testing, mask requirements
- Test or vaccination reporting
Welcome back UWO Titans. It’s great to have you back on campus.
To those of you who have been vaccinated against COVID-19, thank you. If you haven’t already done so, make sure you let us know you’re vaccinated. Report it now on this form. If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, take advantage of the opportunities to get the free vaccine on our campuses. See details below.
Why does this matter? First it will help protect you and your loved ones against this virus. Second it will help us offer a campus experience as close to normal as we can. And third: UWO is offering a chance for a $1,000 scholarship to those fully vaccinated; Gov. Evers is giving everyone vaccinated between Aug. 20 and Sept. 19 $100, get your $100 here; and reaching a 70% vaccination rate will enable you to qualify for several $7,000 scholarships available through UW System’s 70 for 70 program.
UW-La Crosse has already hit 70%. Madison is at 88%. UWO students are known for being leaders. When we’re presented with a challenge, we rise to the occasion. Show your peers across the state that UW Oshkosh is more than ready to meet – and exceed – this challenge. But you must get vaccinated. Yes, you.
And when we reach these goals, we will continue to thwart COVID-19’s hold on us. We will be able to reduce safety measures if we can control the spread of COVID. We want to be able to forego masks, again, and hopefully this time for good.
We’ve heard from many of you who are vaccinated against COVID-19. Thank you for filling out the vaccination report form. We need to keep this going and continue to drive up our vaccination rate. Together we can do this. Don’t wait. Get vaccinated now. The scholarship opportunity ends Oct. 15.
We’re making this easy by offering free vaccines at Albee Hall 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. You can walk in or make an appointment on the MyPrevea app.
We also have vaccination opportunities on the Fond du Lac and Fox Cities campuses. Please check separate emails you have received from your FDL and FC campus leadership.
If you are fully vaccinated and find out you are a close contact of someone who has COVID-19, you are not required to quarantine. Save yourself the disruption of quarantine, get vaccinated. If you are diagnosed with COVID-19, you will be required to move to isolation.
If you are going to miss class due to COVID-19 or any other reason, please follow standard procedures: contact your professors and/or the Dean of Students office.
As mentioned above, if you are fully vaccinated by Oct. 15 and fill out the vaccine report form, you are eligible for scholarships through UWO and UW System.
- UWO will award 10 fully vaccinated students a $1,000 scholarship.
- UW System will award several $7,000 scholarships to students who are fully vaccinated if we achieve a 70% vaccination rate among our students.
- AND Gov. Evers is giving $100 to every person vaccinated between Aug. 20 and Sept. 19. Get yours here.
Find information on these programs and additional vaccination information on the Titans Return website. We are in the process of compiling campus vaccination data and will be publishing up-to-date information on the Titans Return website next week.
All students who are not fully vaccinated must undergo weekly COVID-19 testing. Students on the Fox Cities and Fond du Lac campuses who are not vaccinated must test biweekly. Anyone experiencing symptoms, vaccinated or not, also must be tested. There are no exceptions.
If you do not want to test weekly, get vaccinated. Students who have not reported their vaccination status and fail to show up for required testing will be contacted by the Dean of Students. Students who do not comply with testing are subject to the student conduct process through the Dean of Students office.
If you get a COVID-19 test at a location off campus, you must report it on this form.
Fully vaccinated students who are not experiencing symptoms but who would like to get tested, should seek a test at a private provider or pick up an at-home test at a retailer. We will not be testing you at Albee or on the Fond du Lac or Fox Cities campuses.
Testing clinics are available 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at Albee on the Oshkosh campus. Fond du Lac and Fox Cities students should watch their email for updated testing information.
Our mask orders are pretty straightforward. You must wear a mask indoors in all UWO buildings – this includes residence halls (except your room). Masks are required in the classroom. Students may drink beverages in the classroom, but should only remove their mask when actively engaged in drinking.
Students who do not wear a mask also are subject to the student conduct process.
And one last thing: GET VACCINATED.
