The National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) champion University of Wisconsin Oshkosh women’s gymnastics team was recognized by members of the Wisconsin State Assembly this week at the Capitol building in Madison.

Rep. Lori Palmeri, who represents Wisconsin’s 54th District and serves as Oshkosh mayor, met with the Titans Tuesday along with Rep. Michael Schraa and Sen. Dan Feyen before Palmeri helped present a proclamation from the Wisconsin Legislature to the team on the Senate floor.

Twenty-five members of the UW Oshkosh team, along with coaches Lauren Karnitz and Wendy Carey, assistant director of athletics and senior woman administrator Abby Gildernick and Chancellor Andrew Leavitt were in attendance.

As one of six teams competing, UWO won its sixth national championship and second consecutive title at Winona State University in Minnesota on March 25, scoring 192.525 points.

Head coach Lauren Karnitz ’06, ’12 MSE, guided the team to a 5-1 conference dual record during the regular season. UWO advanced to the NCGA Championship by winning the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Region with a championship record 193.100 points.

Members of the UWO gymnastics team also be recognized Aug. 4 when the Milwaukee Brewers host the Pittsburgh Pirates at American Family Field in Milwaukee. Karnitz will throw out the first pitch.
