More than 20 robots built during the Amazing Robotics Challenge program at UW-Fond du Lac will be facing off in a competition in the Prairie Theater, 9 a.m. -noon on Saturday, April 26.

The public is invited to this free event where students in Grades 4-9 will compete with their robots and Grades 7-12 will give a demonstration.

Students in this UW-Fond du Lac Continuing Education program have been learning engineering skills since February to prepare for this competition. They were challenged to create a robot that can perform tasks in a manufacturing setting such as reciting its resume, moving products and loading a truck. Using the popular building toy KNEX, combined with special locally-designed and manufactured microcontroller “brains,” motors, and sensors, the students were able to invent and build a wide range of machines.

Advanced Robotics Challenge was added this year for returning students in Grades 7-12. They have been building and programming a robot from scratch, learning simple CAD design and using a CNC machine as well as other power tools.

A Robotics Camp will be offered this summer during UW-Fond du Lac Continuing Education’s College for Kids program.
