NEWSPA is going virtual to bring experts into your classroom from January to June.

By, Jacob Eckberg

The Northeastern Wisconsin Scholastic Press Association (NEWSPA) annual conference will be taking a new direction this spring. The conference date has been set for April 21, and a ton of new exciting format changes are underway to bring the best resources to your classrooms, so let’s dive in!

From January to June we will be providing you with short, educational videos about a wide range of topics throughout the field of journalism. These videos will be 10-15 minutes in length, so it’s incredibly easy to plug into lesson plans! These videos will be accessible straight from the NEWSPA website, where you can directly show them to your classroom, whether your class is online or in person. This asynchronous style of NEWSPA allows for maximum flexibility for teachers and advisers.

Some things will be staying the same, however. NEWSPA will still be holding competitions and plans to host a live awards ceremony on April 21.

Due to the virtual format, you can expect some exciting changes to this year’s conference. We are excited to continue our work to connect aspiring journalism students, faculty and advisers to valuable resources, while also showcasing student work and providing learning opportunities through conferences and competitions.
