Clinical Internship and Hospital Affiliates
Since the program began in 1955, the number of internship positions available has generally kept pace with the number of applicants. A high percentage of our students applying for internships are successful, however, students need to be aware of the fact that internship placement is a competitive process. The level of competition changes each year based on the number of qualified applicants.
When students have completed their four-year curriculum, they receive a bachelor of science degree and are then eligible to take a national examination for certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS). For UW Oshkosh medical laboratory science majors the success rate for this examination has been about 99 percent, compared to a national success rate of only 75 percent. Our graduates have been equally successful in obtaining employment after graduation.
Internships are held at any of the six hospitals currently affiliated with the UW Oshkosh Medical Laboratory Science program.
