maier-samSam graduated this past spring with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy and a minor in European Studies. After graduation, he moved to Washington, D.C. to begin his job search. He writes, “My path to this position was a lot of luck, mixed with a decent amount of persistence. Within the first month after graduation, I applied to well over 70 different companies for everything from executive assistant positions to tour guides.”

The job hunt didn’t last long. Sam was hired by Banner & Witcoff, the top Intellectual Property law firm in the country, as a Design Patent Prosecution Specialist. “My job is to prosecute design patents exclusively for Nike,” Sam writes. “I see the filing process from start to finish for a patent and this process includes collaborating between attorneys, draftsmen, inventors and Nike paralegals to make sure that everything is being filed in the right way and in the right markets.” This position is sure to give Sam a wide range of experiences and skills that will set him up for whatever he wants to do next.

We now count Sam among our many alums who are living and working in the D.C. area. Does that interest you? You are welcome to email Sam at sammaier55@gmail.com to learn more from him (and ask him about his cute new puppy!).
