Coming Out Straight, by Janice Lee

What if being gay in this world was seen as the ordinary and being straight was not? That’s where my short film Coming Out Straight takes us, redefining how illogical today’s status quo is. My short film focuses on getting parents to be more tolerant of their children’s sexuality as well as working out problems with their children instead of trying to do what they believe is best for them. Being a part of the LGBTQ community, I have seen numerous instances where the parents are not supportive of their children’s sexuality. In response to this, I wanted to bring awareness to the reoccurring problem of parents not accepting their children for who they are.

In a world where being gay is the norm and being straight is not, a teenager’s mother endlessly patronizes their neighbors for being heterosexuals. Reaching her breaking point, she snaps and tells her mother how she truly feels.
