The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s Learning in Retirement (LIR) program returns Sept. 1, kicking off a new semester with dozens of programs in Oshkosh and the Fox Cities.

“We are looking forward to the fall semester of 50 programs with pride and enthusiasm,” said LIR President James Krueger. “With the support of the membership and the multiple partners in the community, the content for this semester is equivalent to the pre-pandemic quality and amount. Our loyal volunteers have served their fellow members well.”

Among the offerings for the coming semester are appearances from former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson and Charles Christburg, who spent more than 42 years with the U.S. Marine Corps and served as director of staff, strategy, policy and plans directorate of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command.

The docket also includes trips to Mosquito Hill Nature Center, Ariens Co. and to see two theater productions. The full course catalog is available here.

Annual membership for LIR runs July 1 through June 30 and is $100. Membership includes attendance at an unlimited number of programs for the year. New members may join at any time.

Linked to UWO through the University’s Division of Online and Continuing Education, LIR is a self-directed, membership-based association of people 55 and older that has offered learning opportunities to its members since 1997. For more information, visit uwosh.edu/lir.
