Throughout the course of three lessons, students will use close reading to understand the book, Salt in His Shoes, at a deeper level. In the fourth lesson, students will demonstrate their understanding, by retelling the story through a traditional chant. Students will rewrite the words of the chant to tell events from the beginning, middle, and end of the book and/or how the character develops throughout the story.
