Faculty praise for Joy
“It’s easy to say that Joy embodies her name, as she’s delightful — and her smile lights an entire campus — but she might also be named Moxie, Wisdom, Goodwill, or Tenacity. In my work with Joy in the McNair Scholars Program, I was fortunate to learn and experience her as multi-faceted. She was a spokesperson for equality and justice, a mediator for colleagues, a writer, a storyteller, a scholar, and an activist. She is one of few students I’ve known to put research into action with the first-ever food pantry on campus to mitigate food scarcity. Joy Evans talks the talk, and she walks the walk, demonstrating the kind of follow-through many of us aspire to but can’t attain.”
