Dr. Xie’s objective is to develop new green chemistry laboratory experiments in two semesters of organic chemistry lab courses. The work contains two aspects of reducing waste generation in the lab: 1) adoption of more efficient recycling of chemicals used in each experiment (thus reducing waste generation); and 2) incorporation of green chemical processes into the lab curriculum (thus preventing waste generation in the first place). The project addresses the issues of improving lab safety and minimizing waste generation.
