2023 Scholarship Recipients

Beth Ruthefordt: George R. Soika Scholarship ($1600)

I am a non-traditional student, married with 5 children. I was inspired to return to college and pursue a psychology major after listening to an audiobook by Malcolm Gladwell. My initial plans involved pursuing counseling but I am open to a different route in psychology, possibly in research. I have added a neuroscience minor, joined the Honors College, and I’m looking at completing the Behavioral Science certificate as well. I am finishing my junior year and have my sights set on graduate school. Receiving this scholarship money helps lessen the financial load of studying as I am only able to work part-time with a full class load. I am grateful and honored to receive this scholarship.

Jazmine Peterson: Michael D. Kogutek Scholarship ($2,000)

My name is Jazmine Peterson and I’m planning on becoming a counselor for Juvenile Facilities. My majors are Psychology and Criminal Justice with certificates in Behavioral Health and Forensic Investigation. I was introduced to psychology through my high school course during my sophomore year and I was also interested in the criminal justice system as well throughout high school. I’m working towards attending graduate school for Counseling.

Right now, I’m currently volunteering for a camp called Camp Kesem, a camp that supports children whose family is affected by cancer. I’m also currently in multiple honors societies and working towards obtaining a research opportunity next summer.

Caleb Tancrede: Michael D. Kogutek Scholarship ($2,000)

My name is Caleb Tancrede, a third year transfer student within the psychology program here at UW Oshkosh. Early in my life I lived in Rhode Island surrounded by my family. Later in life, I moved to West Bend Wisconsin and Graduated from West Bend West High School. Shortly afterwards I received my Associates Degree from UW Milwaukee at Washington County. Supported by my parents, extended family, and eight siblings, I work towards my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology here at UW Oshkosh.
