Certificates

Add digital and social media skills to your academic plan** with a AMP certificate attainable in just nine credits to help you find an exciting job. These certificates pair well with any academic program. In most cases, courses need to be taken consecutively.

Social media certificate (9 credits) 

  • JOUR 221 Writing for the Media (3 credits)
  • JOUR 340 New and Emerging Media (3 credits) 
  • JOUR 440 Application of New and Emerging Media (3 credits) Prerequisites: 340

Multimedia journalism certificate (9 credits)

  • JOUR 221 Writing for the Media (3 credits)
  • JOUR 251 Foundations in Multimedia Storytelling (3 credits)
  • JOUR 327 Reporting (3 credits) Prerequisite: 221 or JOUR 331 Visual Media Design (3 credits) Prerequisites: 221, 251

Public relations certificate (9 credits)

  • JOUR 221 Writing for the Media (3 credits)
  • JOUR 211 Principles of Public Relations (3 credits)
  • JOUR 315 Public Relations Techniques (3 credits) Prerequisites: 221, 211

Advertising certificate (9 credits)

  • JOUR 221 Writing for the Media (3 credits)
  • JOUR 250 Principles of Advertising (3 credits)
  • JOUR 351 Advertising Copy Layout and Production (3 credits) Prerequisites: 221, 250 or JOUR 353 Advertising Media (3 credits) Prerequisites: 221, 250

 

Of note, prerequisites cannot be taken concurrently (i.e. J340 and J440 cannot be taken in the same semester). Registration for all certificate courses are handled through the Advertising, Multimedia Journalism and Public Relations Department office. Seats in courses are set aside separately for AMP majors/minors and certificate students. Also, if you are seeking a certificate and are interested in registering for additional AMP classes, you must meet with an AMP adviser to get enrolled.
