ArtShare: 60 Minute Saturdays

Our Spring 2021 professional development series for UWO pre-service teachers and licensed teachers has concluded. Thank you to everyone who presented and participated virtually for a brief time of learning and lively conversations!

 

Past Events

May 1, 2021: “Poetic Printed Portraits”

A creative collision of words and color was combined during an English Language Arts and Visual Art lesson.  In this session, ArtsCore Alumni, Jenny Henselin, and  Oshkosh North High School Art Educator, Mary Yang,  shared how students wrote, revised, and polished I Am From poems capturing identity and then created a printed portrait.  Participants had an opportunity to start their own I Am From poem and produced a print.

April 10, 2021: “’Doing’ National Arts Standards in the S.T.E.A.M. Curriculum”

Presenters UWO Alumna Antoinette West, a middle school art teacher from the Sheboygan Area School District, and Dr. Yoko Mogi-Hein, a senior lecturer from UW Oshkosh, hosted a hot topic discussion that incorporated art and science, focusing on experiential lessons with an emphasis on the situated learning activity with Wandering Technology.

February 20, 2021: “Insects and Art: Building Curricular Connections”

Session #1: This session took participants on a virtual tour of the Paine’s current exhibition, which features intricate patterns created by incredible insects!  Mary Pleiss, the Paine’s ArtsCore Coordinator, and Kelsey Raschke, the Paine’s Educator, presented a virtual tour of The Other Side: an Installation by Jennifer Angus and looked at how Angus used insects as art objects and vehicles for storytelling.  Participants learned how they and their students could experience the exhibition and help build curricular connections to Angus’ work.

Session #2: This session featured ArtsCore Colony Alumni Ta Feiter and Brianna Lubbers presenting their literacy lesson, Sculpting with Read-Alouds.  Ta and Brianna shared an excerpt from Jennifer Angus’ book and demonstrated sculpting techniques with model magic.

January 23, 2021:  “Self-Care for You and Your Students”

This session featured ArtsCore Alumna, Teresa Moucha, for an hour of learning and lively conversation!  This session was dedicated to techniques to use with students to create a sense of calm in their minds and bodies.  The morning was rounded out with a 25-minute guided full body relaxation and a seated meditation.
