Recording Showcase 2020

“When the Party’s Over (Cover)”

written by Billie Eilish

Cassidey Wolfert

Junior, Audio Production and Music Business

Introduction

I chose to create a cover of this piece because it described everything I was going through at the time. I was inspired to record this song because of the soft vocals but all the layering of voices used in the piece that is specific to Billie Eilish’s sound. I used ProTools when creating this recording and just a AKG mic.

About the producer

I am a junior studying Music Business and Audio Production at UW Oshkosh. I started becoming interested in producing and business management at 16 when I got to record at Blackbird Studios. I now plan to intern at that same studio this summer from where it all got started. I want to eventually become a manager of a recording studio one day.

About The Process

The production process was pretty easy in a sense. I was trying to get the soft voice with a lot of reverb, but in order to get the vocals to sound as close as the original sound I decided to double the melody along with 2 harmonies above and below the melody. This gave it the full sound with still having a soft main vocal feel. The hardest part was deciding what reverbs to use and if I should use the same one on each vocal track or not.
